Greetings, to all who roam these halls...

______________

This site is dedicated to Magic: the Gathering players old and new who have a yearning for the days when Shivan dominated the skies, Assassins lurked in the shadows, and Leviathan was the undisputed king of the ocean.

Type Zero Magic is that return to nostalgia. The concept is simple: all cards must be from the "T" Tap Symbol era or before - Alpha thru Fallen Empires. This format has a unique banned and restricted list which draws from other "Old School" lists for a balanced meta, but keeps Old School staple rules "Mana Burn" and "Tapped Blockers don't deal damage"; in the interest of simplicity, all other game rules and updated errata are current.

Type Zero Lite, or "Power Down", is a variant of Type Zero geared toward greater accessibility, more creature interaction (less "stall") and creative deckbuilding, that encourages balanced back-and-forth games while still maintaining that Old School feel.  This version not only restricts the most broken cards such as Power 9, Library, Sol Ring, and Mind Twist, but limits a deck to include no more than 3 of any of these cards.  It uses a novel "tiered" restricted list, allowing 2 or even 3 copies of some cards (such as Mishra's Factory, Hymn to Tourach, and Mana Drain) that aren't so powerful they need to be limited to 1, but need some limitation due to the fact they are insurmountable if not dealt with, regularly create situations that stifle interaction, or that they choke out room for creativity.  Accessibility is key - reprints (with original artwork) and recognizable proxies are always allowed and encouraged in Power Down.  No Sideboards... you have to build your deck to deal with whatever comes your way.

Whether you are newer to the game and feel overwhelmed with the constant barrage of new mechanics, paragraphs of card text, and turns that last a week, or are a player from the early days, fondly remembering hanging with friends in the school lunchroom, opening revised packs, listening to our middle school teachers tell us how Magic would lead to a life of sin... this is our format.

About, about in reel and rout, the death-fires danced at night;

The water, like a witch's oils, burnt green, and blue and white."
